Quackers!

What is sweeter than a baby chick? How about a baby duck? Little ducklings are a wonderful way to teach the changes that growth bring. Right now the EZ Lab does not have it's own incubator, so I order the ducks from a place called The Stockyard (our nearby farm and feed store). We receive the ducklings the week-end of Easter and study and care for them until they are ready to go to a farm.

The students find the ducks irresistible. While ducklings are cute and somewhat cuddly, I point out that they are also messy and sometimes stink. They cannot be house broken. They do not really care where they splash and splatter! A farm creature does not make a good house pet.

Be warned that ducks are messy and need lots of water and have a place ready for them. They are also cute and trusting. Adults should always supervise children handling the little critters.

Have fun!
